Tilletia festuca-octoflorana Zundel

Description

Sori infecting all ovaries of an inflorescence, ovoid to broadly fusiform, 2–4 (–5) mm long, 1–2 mm wide, partly hidden by the floral envelopes, initially covered by the pericarp that ruptures, exposing the pale brown agglutinated mass of spores and sterile cells.

Spores globose, subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal, 16–23 (–25) × 16–21 (–23) µm, pale lemon-yellow, with a sheath up to 5 µm thick in which the 1.5–3.0 µm high conical spines protrude, 4–6 per spore diameter.

Sterile cells few, subglobose to ellipsoidal, 12-20 × 10–16 µm, hyaline; wall 2-layered, 1.5–4.5 µm thick, smooth.
