Tilletia majuscula R.G.Shivas & McTaggart

Description

Sori in some ovaries of a panicle, ellipsoidal, 3.0–7.0 × 1.5–2.5 mm, with floral remnants attached to an acute apex, covered by a persistent perideum, initially green becoming dark brown, rupturing irregularly releasing the black powdery spore mass mixed with sterile cells.

Spores globose, subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal, 20–27 × 18–26 µm, yellowish brown to dark chocolate brown, wall c. 3.0 µm thick, with conical warts, 1.0–2.0 µm high, that in surface view appear as discrete dark rounded or polygonal areas about 1.0 µm diameter, 13–20 per spore diameter; in optical median view 35–60 on the equatorial circumference; spore profile smooth due to the sheath.

Sterile cells globose, ovoid, broadly ellipsoidal to subployhedrally irregular, 15–35 × 14–33 µm diameter, subhyaline to pale brown; wall uneven, 2–6 µm thick, laminate, smooth.
