Description

Sori in ovaries, covered by a thin fragile pericarp, containing the pale to dark reddish brown powdery spore mass.

Spores globose, subglobose, ovoid or sometimes irregular, 20–28 × 18–22 µm, pale yellow to light reddish brown; wall reticulate, sometimes incompletely so, 6–10 meshes per spore diameter, 1–4 (–5) µm wide; muri 1.5 µm high.

Sterile cells globose, 12–20 µm diam., subhyaline to pale yellow; wall smooth, 1.0–1.5 µm thick; contents granular, guttulate or vacuolate.

Comments

The spores in some of the Australian specimens of T. bromi measure 15–20 µm diam., which is small for this species.
