Description

Sori occupying the entire inflorescence, partly hidden by the leaf sheaths, cylindrical, c. 10 mm long, covered by a brownish fungal peridium that flakes away from its apex exposing a dark brown semi-agglutinated to dusty mass of spores surrounding a well-developed branched columella.

Spores when mature solitary, globose, subglobose to slightly irregular, 9.5–12.0 × 9–11 µm, reddish brown, minutely echinulate.

Sterile cells c. the size of the spores or slightly larger, in irregular groups, scattered within the spore mass, hyaline to pale yellow, collapsed in old specimens; wall thin, smooth.
