Prospodium appendiculatum (G. Winter) Arthur

Description
Uredinia on lower leaf surface, subepidermal, erumpent, pulverulent, up to 400 μm diam., pale cinnamon-brown, with peripheral incurved short hyaline paraphyses, 28–45 x 7-11 μm; wall 2.5-4 µm thick at sides, 1-2 µm thick at apex.

Urediniospores globose, subglobose, obovoid to oval, 22–27 x 17–25 μm; two wall layers, hyaline outer wall, 2.5-5 μm thick and echinulate, brown inner wall, 1.5-3 μm thick.

Telia on lower leaf surface, subepidermal, erumpent, blackish brown, sometimes developing in the uredinia, about 100 μm diam.

Teliospores oblong to ellipsoid, slightly constricted at septum, 43–49 μm x 26–32 μm; wall 3.2–5.5 μm thick at sides, 5–7 μm thick over pores, reddish brown, echinulate with spines spaced 5–6 μm, pores apical in upper cell, next to pedicel in lower cell, each with a paler umbo; pedicel hyaline, thin-walled, mostly 60–90 μm long, with four or five conspicuous whorls of appendages with less-developed appendages below.

Comments
This rust was first reported from Thailand by Bhasabutra et al. (2012). Teliospores were not seen in the examined specimens and measurements are taken from Bhasabutra et al. (2012).
